Individual psychotherapy

Psychodynamic therapy for deeper self-awareness.

Explore history, soothe triggers, and find calm through therapist-client collaboration rooted in relational science.

Work with a psychodynamic counselor to reach the root.

Most of our clients are thoughtful, high-functioning individuals, including leaders, professionals, creatives, and caretakers – people accustomed to holding it together and needing a private space to let go. They’ve often tried short-term models or structured therapies like CBT and DBT. And while those approaches can be useful, they’re often left with the same underlying question: “Why hasn’t anything really changed?”

That’s where our deep, psychodynamic therapy work begins.

How we can support you

Relational, psychodynamic counselors creating open space to explore.

Through interpersonal counseling, psychodynamic insight, and attachment lenses, we map how past experience lives inside present reactions. When frustration or distance appears, we pause and explore it; what it feels like, where it began, what it needs. Following those threads kindly and without judgement, we loosen stuck patterns so new possibilities can emerge. The goal is genuine curiosity and deep understanding rather than quick tricks, encouraging lasting change to take root.

What may shift over time

Psychodynamic therapy that builds realistic confidence and calm.

As insight gathers, automatic reactions loosen. Clients notice triggers sooner, blame themselves less, and engage in relationships with authenticity rather than performance. Emotional steadiness replaces chronic vigilance; self-esteem grows realistic and resilient. The brain, like a muscle strengthened by compassionate curiosity, learns to hold complexity without collapsing, freeing energy for creativity, intimacy, and purpose.

Challenges we treat

Anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, and more.

We address a wide range of challenges, such as:

  • Anxiety and chronic worry

  • Depression and low mood

  • Complex or developmental trauma

  • PTSD flashbacks and hypervigilance

  • OCD patterns

  • Borderline or narcissistic traits

  • Bipolar spectrum swings

  • Dissociation or feeling unreal

  • Emotional dysregulation or high sensitivity

  • Stress-linked illness and major transitions

However your concern may appear, our depth-based model combines directive and non-directive approaches, helping you transition from coping to thriving.

The Soileau Experience

Comfortable surroundings for brave conversations.

Our office is designed for peace and quiet, offering a serene and private environment. Appointments are staggered to prevent clients from crossing paths. And there are no crowded waiting rooms. Instead, you’ll experience quiet corridors, sound-buffered rooms, and warm light. There’s tea. There’s gourmet coffee. There’s filtered water. There’s room to arrive and exhale. We’ve made deliberate design choices because we know that feeling safe in the room makes it easier to be honest in the work. If you don’t live nearby, we also offer online therapy in Missouri, Kansas, Florida, Colorado, and Texas.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our therapists specialize in contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and relational analysis. These approaches focus on understanding your emotional and relational patterns through the lens of past experiences, attachment, and how those dynamics play out in the present, including within the therapy relationship itself.

  • Once we receive your inquiry, we typically respond within 2 business days. We’ll offer a few options for a quick phone consultation with one of our therapists. During that call, we’ll ask about what you’re looking for, talk through next steps, and ensure we’re a good clinical match. If we’re aligned, you’ll receive an email link to your secure portal where you’ll complete intake paperwork before your first session.

  • We offer both in-person and online sessions. Our office is located in the Stilwell Building in downtown Kansas City. Most of our therapists are licensed in Missouri, and a select few also offer telehealth in Kansas, Florida, Colorado, South Carolina, and Texas, allowing them to see clients in those states via secure video sessions.

  • We are an out-of-network provider. While we don’t bill insurance directly, we can provide you with a monthly superbill to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We strongly encourage clients to call their insurance provider ahead of time to understand their out-of-network mental health benefits.

  • Each therapist sets their own rate, which will be discussed during your consultation. We believe in transparency around pricing and will walk you through all details prior to your first session. We also offer reduced-rate sessions with our clinical interns when available.

  • We ask for at least 2 business days’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 2 business days’ notice may be charged in full, at your therapist’s discretion.

  • We regularly support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship stress, burnout, low self-worth, trauma, obsessive-compulsive patterns, mood and personality disorders, and the lingering effects of unmet needs in early life. Our work is especially well suited to clients seeking to understand and shift longstanding patterns rather than apply short-term solutions.

  • Once you’ve completed your phone consultation and are ready to move forward, we’ll ask you to complete electronic intake forms, including an informed consent to treatment. This document outlines expectations, practice policies, and your rights as a client.

  • Yes. If you have someone in mind, let us know when you reach out. If you’re unsure, we’ll help place you with a therapist whose style and clinical strengths fit your needs.
